A. Global Grandmothers is an online movement commited to providing support to children in need worldwide. The core concept of Global Grandmothers is “linked giving”, meaning that when you give to your grandchild, or a child you love, you also give to a child in need.
Q. What is the mission of GLOBAL GRANDMOTHERS?
A. The mission of Global Grandmothers is to motivate grandmothers and others to share their resources with needy children worldwide as regularly as they do with their own loved ones.
Q. Must I be a grandmother?
A. No. Anyone can take the pledge and become a Global Grandmother. Grandmother is a term that brings to mind loving and caring for someone.
Q. Does it cost money to become a Global Grandmother?
A. No. Initially there was a $5 fee for becoming a member but that is no longer required.
Q. Why do I need to take a pledge to become a GLOBAL GRANDMOTHER?
A. Taking a pledge to be a Global Grandmother is how you register your commitment to give to a child in need when you give to a loved one.
Q. Are there various ways to meet my pledge?
A. Yes, for instance, you can make a large gift annually for one child, you can sponsor a child jointly with a grandchild, or you can make a donation when you give a gift to your grandchild.
Q. I’m confused. If I become a Global Grandmother and give my grandchild a doll, do I have to give the amount I spent on the doll to one of these organizations?
A. No. The core idea is that Global Grandmothers give to children in need as they give to their own grandchildren. Neither the amount nor the timing needs to be exactly the same.
Q. What specifically does Global Grandmothers do?
A. Global Grandmothers researches and recommends children’s charities, provides resources on children’s issues, and offer tools to promote your grandchild’s global awareness.
Q. Can I make an additional donation to Global Grandmothers?
A. Yes. Global Grandmothers appreciates additional donations to support the expansion of our movement and maintenance of our website.
Q. Can I donate directly to Global Grandmothers in honor of someone?
A. Yes. You can make a donation in honor of someone. Go to “donate” tab and follow the directions. You will receive an acknowledgement.
Q. Is my donation to Global Grandmothers tax deductible?
A. Yes. Global Grandmothers is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit public benefit corporation and is not organized for the private gain of any person. The Global Grandmothers tax exempt number is
27-3196090. Global Grandmothers is also registered with the State of California Attorney General’s Registry of Charitable Trusts.
Q. Your website lists organizations that benefit children. How do I know they are reputable?
A. Global Grandmothers has only listed organizations that have a proven track record for nurturing and educating children worldwide. Recommended organizations meet the four star rating from Charity Navigator and have an additional positive review from one of the other rating services. Global Grandmothers has reviewed these organizations through Charity Navigator, Better Business Bureau, GiveWell, Great NonProfits, Guidestar, and Charity Watch.
Q. Are these organizations supporting children only in the United States?
A. No. The mission of Global Grandmothers is to support children in need worldwide. Therefore the organizations on the Global Grandmothers website have a national and global focus.
Q. Must I give to the same organization every time?
A. No. As a Global Grandmother, you can give to as many different organizations as you wish and as often as you wish. Your gifts need not be to organizations listed on the Global Grandmothers website.
Q. Is there a minimum donation required?
A. No. The amount and timing of each gift is personal and dependent on your ability to give. Any donation, large or small, can make a difference in the life of a child in need.
Q. Will you track my donations to these organizations?
A. No. Global Grandmothers does not have the capacity to track donations. Global Grandmothers does provide, however, a “Giving Journal” for tracking your donations. This journal is available on the website.
Q. Are you a religious organization?
A. No. Global Grandmothers is not affiliated with any religion.
Q. Where can I learn more about issues affecting children worldwide?
A. A good starting point is the Global Grandmothers “resources tab”. Through the Global Grandmothers newsletter and updates, Global Grandmothers will also share information on these issues
Q. What can I do to spread the word about Global Grandmothers?
A. Go to the "Spread the Word" page under the "Join the Movment" tab. Talk to your friends, family, work associates. Direct them to the Global Grandmothers website.
